"I bought a vintage mechanical keyboard at the local flea market. Now, how do I plug this in?" ⌨️

The Olympia Traveller typewriters are of german design. They were originally introduced in 1969 but, from 1971, were manufactured in the former Yugoslavia – in Bugojno, modern day Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This one is from 1986 and it's in near perfect condition. The accent keys were jamming, but that turned out to be an easy fix.

It's relatively lightweight, only 4.5 Kg. 🏋️‍♂️

These three pictures assume square pixels, which is wrong. Instead, they should have 4:3 aspect ratios, right? 📺

Day of The Tentacle, yes. 320x200 on the PC is expected to be 4:3, and its pixels are not square.

The other two are debatable. Their arcade cabinets had 4:3 CRTs, but neither look right in 4:3. Street Fighter looks better close to 3:2, and Ghouls'n Ghosts looks OK in 16:10. In both cases, their pixels aren't square either.

Apple is angering large parts of the creative community by destroying some of their most valued tools.

A better ad would have looked like this. It was made by Apple 10 years ago.

Geeks used to form a counterculture, chasing knowledge for self-improvement, and contributing to the commons as a combination of fun, exercising their skills, and regaining control over technology.

Geeks used to reject solutions and products under someone else's control as a matter of principle. They used to reject money-driven technologies and corporate propaganda.

What happened to that? 😢

Street Fighter II (1991) needs no introduction. But what about the first?

I bet that a lot of people would react to this question with a mix of confusion and realization. For most, it's as if a first never existed – like Star Wars starting with episode IV (a moniker it only got three years later when The Empire Strikes Back was released).

But it did exist and, although flawed when played today, Street Fighter (1987) was a step ahead in the genre.

In the perennial discussion on why the Amiga lost to the PC, opinions often reduce to Doom and/or Commodore mismanagement.

But I think the root cause runs much deeper, is much subtler, and isn't Amiga-specific – it's just that other affected systems were all but dead by the time the Amiga died.

I believe all architectures somehow married to TV standards had their days numbered regardless. ⌛

My reasoning on this is a bit wonky. Bear with me...

Mr. Do is a circus clown, and clowns aren't creepy at all. Just look at these two flyers for "Do! Run Run" (1984), aren't they cute? 🤡 🔪

Mr. Do appears in a series of four arcade games by Universal (not the film studio) in 82, 83 and 84.

The first ("Mr. Do") is an obvious clone of Namco's "Dig Dug" (1982) with more colors and complexified mechanics. I like the original more.

The second ("Mr. Do's Castle") is the most fun to me.

The latter two are... OK, I guess. 🤷‍♂️
